FoodFest #OPOC 2018 Community Day went ahead thanks to the Roebuck Centre. 

FoodFest Day 2:  Community Day

Day 2 of Foodfest ‘Our Planet Our Community’ 2018 saw Newcastle town centre awash with community groups and community activities for the whole family. You could have scale the dizzy heights of the Scouts climbing wall, learn all about the Potteries of the area from Ceramic City Stories and after all that excitement had a refreshing cup of tea and a free oatcake.  Something for all the family.

Activity Organisation
Farm on wheels will be bringing a selection of  farm animals and talking about the raising and looking after of common farm animals. You will have the opportunity to get up close to the animals. Farm on Wheels
Newcastle Scouts are involved deeply with FoodFest 2018 as they were with both previous FoodFest’s. They are :-

  • Running the ever popular Climbing wall
  • Providing Tea and Coffee from there well staffed and managed Tea Tent
  • The corps of Drums will be entertaining us during the day
  • Extracts from caste Capers the ever popular Scout gang show
Newcaste Scouts
Steve Shaw a well know and revered artist will be showing us how to do Lino Printing. Lino printing for centuries was the mainstay of decorating pottery. Come and see an ancient tradition revived.  Steve Shaw
Our long time supporter Danny “The Tile Man” Callaghan will be working on a mosaic using tiles form FoodFest 17 and other locally made tiles. Watch the space. More details on This Page  Danny Callaghan
laudau will be cooking and selling hot food from locally grown and sourced ingrediants Landau
Come and find out how a chair leg is made. Mike will show us how a Poll lathe works and how it is used to turn wood to make chair legs and other wooden items that need to be made from a square piece of wood into a round piece of wood.
Brush and broom making.  Come and see how brushes and brooms are made,
What else you can make out of wood. Come and see the crafts used in making wooden items.
Buzz Buzz honey bee  as the old song starts. Come and find out  from John Wiggins all about bees, and how much we rely on them John Wiggins
One of the aims of FoodFest is to spread the message of  sustainability. Our  friends from ScrapShack will show us what we can make from one persons rubbish Scrapshack
Plastic Free Newcastle will be recycling plastic bottles and crisp packets, so bring your clean bottles and crisp packets with you  Plastic Free Newcastle
Our friends from Staffordshire Wildlife will show us how they look after the wild life and wild places in Staffordshire. Staffordshire Wildlife Trust
Abracadabra will be entertaining us with a mix of Punch &  Judy and magic Abracadabra
From Just over the Border in Stoke-on-Trent HAHO Hartshill and Harpfield Occasions will be telling us all about the wide range of community events and activities they organise and run. HAHO
Sustrans the sustainable transport charity will be  here to help us cycle and walk to work, rest and play Sustrans
FoodFest 2018 theme is ‘Our Planet Our community and ourt friends form Rotary will be showing how they operate both locally and international, or in the words of FoodFast Locally and Planetly. Rotary
Our friends at Black Dog Molly will be showing us what molly dancing is all about. They may even be some fooling about. Black Dog Molly
Friends of Lyme Brook will be telling us al about the river that gives the ‘Real’ Newcastle is full name  Newcastle-under-Lyme Friends of Lyme Brook
With so much poverty around our friends from Period Power will be addressing the issue of  access to sanitary products for all women and girls Period Power
Newcastle Community transport providing transport for people of limited means and mobility will be showing off their bus and tellus us about their work Newcastle Community Transport
